Stormers out to avoid third straight defeat

The Stormers will look to avoid a third successive defeat when they host the Lions for a Round 15 Super Rugby clash, set for Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 26 May 2018, kick-off at 17h15 CAT.

The Stormers come into the match having suffered a heart-breaking 26-23 loss away to the Sunwolves this past weekend, with Hayden Parker’s late drop goal handing the Japanese side victory.

Having gone down 15-9 at home to the Chiefs a week prior, Robbie Fleck’s side is in need of a victory to lift themselves off the bottom of the South African conference.

The Lions, meanwhile, proudly top their local log and only the Crusaders and Hurricanes have taken more points on the combined table. The Johannesburg side secured an impressive 42-24 home win over the Brumbies this past weekend, bouncing back after three straight losses on the road.

The Stormers and Lions have met in 13 previous Super Rugby matches, with the Cape team dominating the rivalry: they have claimed eight wins compared to four for their Gauteng counterparts.

However, the Lions have won their last three games against the Stormers, including a 52-31 triumph in Johannesburg in early April which featured four tries for winger Madosh Tambwe.
